In My Lover's Embrace

He stood with hunger in his gaze.
My hands tingled with hope.
A bold invitation lay unspoken.
A memory of the last arced between.
My heart speaks, calling his name.
He responds. My mind enflamed.
His lips along my cheek like a gentle beating wing.
Straight to the hills of pleasure, the joy heaved
The waves ebbed away leaving a beat. An insistent throb.
My legs tingled to grip him in thrall.
My centre a symphony of wonders.
Stark in Want.
He lives in my body. Mates in my mind.
Drawn to him such sinful longings.
His touch a dream. His caress electric.
His words solace to my soul.
The depth of myriad emotions mirrored in his gaze
My body conquered of all resistance.
My heart whole in his keep.
And then I was firmly wrapped in My Lover’s Embrace.

DAD

Your smile so full of love,
A twinkle in your eye.
A snapshot on my mind.

Your arms open so wide,
It is useless to hide,
Like the sun when it shines,
So bright.
It touches the darkest places
with it’s light.

The simple joy I covet,
Of knowing you are there,
So that I never forget
Home is where you are,
Always on my radar.

You where snatched away too soon,
To see my heart was true,
No doubts have accrued,
To change what I feel for you.

A blink of an eye,
And time will pass by.
Just to look into your smile,
I would gladly walk a mile.

Till then, I will hold you dear,
And let loving memories
To spread and heal,
Of times I cherish the best,

(Ode to my dad: 1941-2011)

OF WORDS AND HEARTSTRINGS

A smile that broke the barriers,
A heart so full of love,
Forgiveness it hurts, but perishes
A pain so full of doubt.

A love hard won by war,
Of words and heartstrings crushed.
Amazing light brims over,
When ash settles
To dust.

Contentment, a sigh hidden beneath
A bushel of resolve replete,
Smiles to bring closer,
The ones so far away.

Deliver Me

Let me uncover a perfect stroke,
And blend it into a breathy hue,
So blue.
One that I could gaze so deeply within,
And forsee a promise so true.

Let me seek out, a starry night,
And wish upon, a star so bright,
Before the trails have left their last,
Radiance in their wake,
That hope has stealthily cometh,
Under the cover of night,
To steal the might,
Of an uncompromising plight.
Deliver Me.

All That I Desire

“Querida! Te Quero….”
The words hung suspended,
Receding through time
To what she encountered instead.
She journeyed forth to America
A place barren and feral.
With a posse of a couple of men,
A safe haven from the elements.
To explore her independence,
Know her mind, Free her heart,
Experience the trials that will alter her throughout.
Sheltered to the day,
Her maman further dismayed
When in a dispatch her father propelled,
To claim a land that’s Free
So she could be all that she wanted to be.
She traversed the great expanse,
Her maman vexed her, taking each chance
Prompting her of dangers in every circumstance.
Of Indian raids, of floods on the plains,
Of men with loose morals,
Of bitter winters and scorching heat.
Strong willed and pretty,
Violet eyes and sunset curly.
A women to turn men - unsteady into ready.
A soldier towering and primed,
Long dark hair and vaquero eyes
Tilted up in amusement besides.
Their heated words and maddening postures,
Hid secret looks, and grandiose obstacles.
He seduced her innocence liberating her feelings,
As the wild open land just beneath their feet.
She braved many outlaws, A raid - an almost rape
A flood, a politician, a sister she never knew – hated.
They snatched her - then spooked her
To rest her treasured land away from her
Irrefutable – her father had left it Before he expired.
To her rescue he came
A painted hombrero with a pinto complete.
Guns blazing he appeared to her – in heat.
“Throw down your weapons,
Hold up your hands –
Move closer to each other
So I can bound your feet and hands.”
The army rounded the corner in the nick of time
While he tossed her atop his horse,
And sped away up the recline.
To keep her out of harm’s way and protected,
Under his appellation for life.
“My heart – I love you deeply”, she said
He, “ Querida, you are my life replete.

Fields of Fire.

Open fields of land no end,
Freedom abound to the west. To the west!
To settle down, To brave the best.
To claim a piece of land. A fortress.
Open carriages under cornflower skies,
Streaming behind a trail mile high.
She left the town and never looked behind
To seek her life while she was in her prime.
She joined her father without a care.
And got three men killed,
Until He came to rescue her.
Broad and aloof aside a ride,
A white gelding with obsidian eyes.
Hair to shoulder, black as night,
A feather of an eagle braided and tied.
A Mighty Brave, with a breechcloth tight,
And skin turned bronze under the blazing skies.
He brought her to her father –
Unpleased by his daughter’s calamity.
He gave her a house in a town, far out.
To keep her safe, out of sight. Just out.
The Bold Brave Indian, Saw her angry frown,
His eyes grew more speculative,
With her fierce beauty unbound.
Her father left her to the cruelties of war,
Between the Apaches who would do them harm,
And the soldiers who came to take over the pound.
The fine-looking brave, half Indian half white,
With no place to go but a wickiup in his tribe.
His band rode into the campsite in a great big cloud
To extend their arms. To defend the crowd.
To prove to the uniforms not all Apaches
Are cut from the same cloth as the baddies,
That raid and maim and pillage for gain.
Day in day out, she was blooming - breathtaking
Grasping his gentleness, and holding onto silent greetings.
Night time meetings, and sacred feelings,
All built up to an extraordinary completeness.
In a war for the best, the will of man - tested.
White men fought to claim in their name – great fame
To vacate the Indians to make them feel displaced.
Bloodbath and death, peace pipes and treaties
A long war that left people in pieces.
As a skirmish broke out, she was scooped up aloft,
And he rode away to his people up the creek
They found peace by their own little stream,
She wore buckskin and moccasins, and gathered peat,
To keep their winter fires, and entrap the heat.
While he hunted buffalo and antelope, and drank off his mead.
Together they discovered an abiding love.
Over years of affection a legacy was born.

More than Love

My Sweetheart, my Love
My life in a nutshell,
Is trying to make her remember
What we once were.

I’m not on her mind these days,
Nor are our lovely childrens’ face.
She’s forgotten all our many blessings,
As time keeps pacing on.

In a moment of clarity
She recalls her love for me,
Confident how it came to be,
As our story unfolds
page by page painstakingly.
Then she asks who Am I to be,
And backs away heartbreakingly.

Each and everyday,
One lucid moment I long to see.
As her memory fades away
For what we are to each.
The tears begin, The heart aches
No more! No more I think I can take,
My love forsakes.
One gaze upon her face, I see my mistake,
I hold on fast to the glimpses of yesterday.
Her lovely smile, her dreamy eyes,
The little crinkle that appeared with time.
Her love, her zest, her passion, her best
Was all wrapped up in our lives no less.

For a minute there time went back
We were dashing around in our great big spread,
Laughter and joy echoed through the halls.
Our love for each other sustained us through
All the times we fought, all the times we loved too.
My sweetheart and I, will end our days,
Even though she can’t remember me anymore,
My home is where she is - forevermore.
