For My Son
He walks in sunshine
A glow at his back
A bounce in his step
A beatific smile to melt your heart,
Or forgive with a hug,
Esconced as snug as a bug
In your arms.
He treads in lightness,
Of Heart and Feet.
Pitter patter at your side with sweet,
His luminous gaze
Searching your eyes
To share in his wonder
Of the first times.
The joy in his face
When he sees the big purple one,
Or the fish that got away in the pond.
His awe knew no bounds,
When his eyes closed around
A sugary memory,
And a need to have it once more.
His stinky fingers in your hair, on your dress
Complete with smears.
His sweet-filled breathe,
His words not yet.
“I love you Mommy,”
Melts away your threat.
